Writing an Acadian Story: The Story Behind the Novel and the History of a People Torn Apart and Reborn

Event Description
Celebrate Acadian Heritage Month with an evening featuring Acadian author Debra Amirault Camelin, who will share the research and writing behind her historical fiction novels inspired by the experiences of Acadians during the 18th century.

The presentation explores the process of telling a story of deportation, exile, and resilience, and how those events shaped the vibrant Acadian communities of Southwest Nova Scotia, particularly the Pubnicos.

About the Speaker
Debra Amirault Camelin is an Acadian author and poet with ancestral roots in Pubnico and Yarmouth. She is the author of the historical fiction novels Nathalie: An Acadian’s Tale of Tragedy and Triumph and An Acadian Odyssey: The Return of Ange Amirault, as well as the poetry collection Light in the Mist. She lives in Yarmouth with her husband
